Tanja London
Certified Pilates Instructor · Somatic Educator · Medical QiGong Practitioner
Pilates instructor specializing in Fascial Pilates, somatic movement, and thoughtful support for injury recovery and chronic pain patterns.
Tanja is a lifelong learner, fascia enthusiast, interdisciplinary artist and has an unyielding passion for the Beauty of this Planet, all her elements and beings including humanity. She has a background in STOTT Pilates, Fascial Mobility, QiGong Healing Arts, Improvisational Dance and is curious about other therapeutic somatic forms such as Body Mind Centering and Feldenkrais.
Her multi-facetted background as well as her curiosities and service to a holistic whole deeply influences her way of teaching. She integrates the physical, energetic and emotional body through the fascial system by combining Western and Eastern approaches to holistic health. Her style of teaching is regenerative and challenging at the same time.
She is passionate about teaching ways of moving, which create pain free, organic ease in every day life, during injury recovery processes or within the context of chronic pain or athletic goals.
When you come to class expect to get individual attention and learn new concepts within the known Pilates repertoire. You will learn classic and experimental exercises and might be puzzled by the unique way to utilize the Pilates equipment.
‘Fascial Pilates’ emphasizes dynamic alignment through a psoas centered length strength. The psoas is central to EVERYTHING we do. Yet, the amount of daily sitting, how we carry our weight on our feet and walking on flat concrete surfaces changed the habits of this and other muscle systems. We are mostly disconnected from the psoas, the only muscle that connects our torso with our legs. What? – Yes. This is not only because our habits have changed from hunter and gatherers but also because the psoas stores emotions we cannot deal with in the moment, be it as of a full life-style, because of trauma or multi-generational situations.
No matter if you are a brand new or a seasoned practitioner, somebody who experiences chronic pain or is looking to improve their athletic edge – with ‘Fascial Pilates’ you will rediscover and integrate the psoas in a holistic new way. You will build an organic strength that is based on the body’s fascial bio-tensegrity that collaborates with gravity. You will cultivate spacious joints and a readiness to move. The understanding of your own body will expand from the inside out. You will learn how to engage the fascial system in support of the muscular system, as in the end – you cannot distinguish one from the other.
The ‘Fascial Pilates’ approach is particularly helpful if you are dealing with nerve impingements, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, scoliosis, repeated injuries, chronic pain, overall too much tension, if you have hyper-flexibility or if you are looking to improve the edge of your athletic skills.
Tanja has helped me with lower back pain, postural issues due to scoliosis and general body awareness. Tanja is quick to spot where I need work, and she adjusts exercises and moves constantly. I have taken Pilates for years and have never had the results I’ve had while working with Tanja. I am standing straighter and taller and feeling better!”
